The Best Five Minute Speech on Data Centers You'll See

If there's one thing that's crystal clear about all the hubbub when it comes to data centers, it's this:

It's really challenging to cut through all the information and misinformation and disinformation on data centers. What are they? What do they really do? Can you cool them in different ways besides the precious resource of water? How loud can they get? Why do city and community leaders keep wanting to have companies build them in their areas? What do regular citizens get out of these data centers?

It's super confusing. And it's hard to know where to look.

One other thing that's crystal clear is that regular citizens do not want these data centers in their backyard or in their communities. A national poll recently showed that people would rather have halfway houses and nuclear energy facilities near them than data centers.

And yet civic authorities continue to do shady stuff in order to attract data centers to their towns and counties.

To cut through all the crap, it's important to find people who clearly articulate why we don't want them, and why we are asking communities to stop foisting them upon us. Or at least slow down and let us catch up to the technology.

A woman named Katie, from Lexington KY, has spoke up at her city council meetings every time data centers is on the agenda. She's smart, articulate, and can help you understand in five minutes the anger and fear so many people have about this subject.

Her best five minute speech is the one below. Check it out!

Why We Don't Want Data Centers
