Passion - God Of This City

If you haven't picked up this CD yet (it came out last Tuesday), I would encourage you to do so. Even though a few of the songs can be found on other CDs, these version of those songs make it definitely worth it. Or you can do the iTunes thing and just purchase the new songs.

So far, the standout cuts for me are "Let God Arise" by Chris Tomlin (from his See The Morning CD), "God Of This City", "Hosanna" (from Hillsong United, but sung by the incredible Christy Nockels), "Beautiful Jesus" by my favorite worship leader Kristian Stanfill, and "Shine" by Matt Redman.

By far my favorite though is "God Of This City". I thought it was an original song by Chris Tomlin, but it's actually a song by a British worship band called Bluetree. Both versions of the song are amazing, you can go to iTunes and get Bluetree's version - which is more "brooding" than the Chris Tomlin version. Hopefully that makes sense, it probably will if you listen to the other version.

Here are the lyrics to God Of This City:

You're the God of this city, You're the King of these people
You're the Lord of this nation, You are
You're the Light in this darkness, You're the Hope to the hopeless
You're the Peace to the restless, You are

There is no one like our God, there is no one like our God

For greater things have yet to come, and greater things are still to be done in this city
Greater things have yet to come, and greater things are still to be done in this city

Greater things have yet to come, and greater things are still to be done here

You’re the Lord of Creation , the Creator of all things
You’re the King above all Kings, You are
You’re the strength in our weakness, You’re the love to the broken
You’re the joy in the sadness , You are

Amazing lyrics and a great, great song.

Dude, I'm going to dissent and say that the best tracks were

O, for a Thousand Tongues -DCB
Hosanna - CN (This is probably the best.)
Walk the World - CH (I love the intro, it rocks my socks.)
Oh the Glory of it All - DCB (My favorite song of their current repertoire.

What did you like most about "God of this City" (the track, not the album)?

Well, I like those as well, except for Walk The World, I just can't get into most of Charlie Hall's songs at first.

I like the lyrics to God of this City, and I like the dynamics of it - from soft piano to driving guitars and drums. And then I get goosebumps when Tomlin sits back and lets the crowd sing the chorus on their own.

Plus the original version from Bluetree is really cool too.

I bought this last night. I love live albums . My favorite was the Matt Redman song "God of Our Yesterdays" and Hosanna with Christy Nockels...I LOVE her voice.

I love Christy Nockels' voice as well.

My daughter's favorites are God Of This City and The Glory Of It All. We sang the last song this past Sunday, and she told me that she really liked the third song (which was Glory Of It All). She's so cute.

We sing Glory Of It All at Apex ...that's my favorite off the David Crowder CD.
Your daughter has good taste :)
Probably doesn't hurt that her dad is the one singing :)
